For now, its just me!

Kate Martter

My name is Kate Martter, though most families know me as Miss Kate. I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and moved to Reno about eight years ago to attend the University of Nevada, where I earned my degree in Business Marketing.

My journey working with children began at age 15 when I started babysitting. After high school, I spent three months in Yokohama, Japan as an Au Pair, living with a host family and caring for their two children. While the experience was challenging—navigating culture shock and being far from home—it shaped me into who I am today. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and confirmed my lifelong passion for working with kids.

When I returned home, I continued nannying throughout college, eventually starting my own nanny business after graduation. While I loved this work, I found myself longing to create something bigger—a place where kids could learn, grow, and build memories the way I did.

From ages 7 to 17, I attended a sleepaway camp in Texas called Camp Balcones Springs. Those summers were some of the most formative experiences of my life. They gave me a deep love for the outdoors, lifelong friendships, and the resilience that comes from both the challenges (bug bites, long hikes in the hot Texas sun) and the comforts (the laughter of camp friends, the safety of our cabins). Camp taught me that pushing beyond comfort zones builds strength, and the bonds you form at camp can last forever.

It’s this spirit that inspired me to create Camp Wilder. My dream is for Camp Wilder to become a place where kids can unplug, be their truest selves, and come back year after year to find adventure, friendship, and belonging. Just as camp shaped me, I will work my hardest to ensure every child leaves Camp Wilder with confidence, resilience, and memories that will last a lifetime
